Our First House

Wow, we are so blessed! We have a friend who lives in this neighborhood and loves it. She recommended us to take a look at the model homes they have when we were heading over to visit them. Donnie and I have always known we wanted new construction as well...it's NEW!

It took 3 months to build and 2 weeks of hair pulling loan process and Whaaaa laaa! It is OURS!

David and Melissa spent the ENTIRE weekend at our new house helping us paint! As Melissa would say..."you are very ambitious!" I wanted to paint the entire downstairs and upstairs in 1 week. Yes, I know I am crazy...hahaha. We were able to get the entire downstairs done though. We had a painting party with some of my friends from Federal Way. Had a great time. Donnie and I love color so we had fun picking them out together. Seriously though...it turned out great! I am so thankful that I have such an amazing Brother and Sister in law and sweet friends!

That tooth must have been loose for a month. We'd check it daily. Then one night, Emma hops out of bed and says "Daddy, aren't you going to check my tooth?"

"Yep, that's getting pretty wiggily. Do you want me to yank it out?"

Just as Emma says "Sure" while wiggling the tooth, it pops out in her hand with no further effort.

One visit from the tooth fairy later, Emma is one tooth poorer and one dollar richer.

I was throwing a babyshower for a friend and the theme was butterflies. We decided to actually hatch butterflies and but them around her garden during the party. So we ordered some catapillers and watched the process happen right before our eyes! I had 2 baskets at my house and every morning the kids would get up to see if anything had happened. You try to explain things but you just never know if they are really listening.
Yesterday I was trying to get some of my work done and Emma was underfoot, so I gave her 3 pieces of papers and told her to go draw me something. This is what she drew and how she explained it. To me, I thought it was AMAZING! She did it all on her own with no help or supervision from me! Smart girl!

At 3 am last night Donnie heard Bryce wake up. Eventually he went downstairs to see how he was doing. He was a little surprised by what he found! He found Bryce asleep in the big chair and in his little hands were a container of vanilla frosting!!! But he wasn't just holding the container he had it opened and with his fingers stuck in it!!! Looks like he got a few licks too!
Time to lock up the pantries and the refridgerator we have a Midnight Sleep snacker!!!!

Emma: " Nope....that means we can buy it!!!" and throws it in the cart! Then proceded to explain if we have it we can't buy it but if we don't then we can!
hahahahahaha.....I really hope that isn't the case for I don't have the room in my house to buy 1 of everything in this world!

Happy St. Patty's Day!! Emma was so excited to dress in all green today! When she came home from Bright Start she said that the leprechaun makes messes! It was so cute! I decided to attempt to make Green Eggs and Ham for the kids as Donnie was working late. I wanted them to have these cute memories of Mommy doing fun things for them! So I went to work! It was fun and easy to make but it kindof looked gross in the end...but tasted good.

Emma thought it was "yuckie" at first and wasn't willing to try it!

But as soon as Emma knew it as the leprechaun that had made the dinner, she was willing to try it. Though she saw me make it, I love this age!

Bryce, yet again, woke up sick. So he didn't eat all day and slept a great nap. But he couldn't turn down his favorite....HAM.

But he didn't want to try anything else at first!

Neither did Emma! But she gave it a Green light!

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!! Hammmmmmmm! By the end, they were so excited that they called Daddy and told him everything. Emma said in her prayer, "Thank you Mr. leprechaun for making messes and yummy green dinners!" She said that it was her favorite dinner ever! Bryce....well....he just asked for more ham!

Road Trip!!!

Donnie's sweet Grandma Wickard had passed away and we wanted to go to the funeral. So we took our kids on our first road trip ever!

We had some scary moments at night....never drive a pass at night during the winter! The semi's are not nice to mini vans in the snow!

we tried to keep the kids entertained with movies and fun boxes. Here is the butt of Bryce's lamb which we left at the first hotel! Such an aweful feeling knowing we left his favorite stuffed animal somewhere where we were not! The hotel was so great to us and kept it aside and we picked it up on the way back.

Uncle John did 4 things on our trip....Slept, talked, flirted (with the sister missionaries, waitresses well any lady...) and ate! We love him and are glad he was able to come with us!!!

Bryce was so sick and was developing a double ear infection! Thank you Uncle John for putting up with the crying! Here they are passed out.

Temple Square....Salt Lake Utah

We had the most amazing time in Utah at Temple Square! We had our own person tour guide through it all starting with Uncle John.

The refective pool has very special meaning to Donnie and I. I had gone on a trip with a friend and went to Idaho and Utah. Donnie and I were just dating at the time and it was our first time being away from each other. So he wrote me this letter and I couldn't open it until I was sitting at the reflective pool! Talk about torture for I had to go to Rexburg first and then the next day to Utah! So by the 2nd day we went to Temple square and saw the sites and I was able to open the letter while I was sitting by the refective pool. It was the most romantic and spiritual letter I have ever received. He shared his testimony and hinted at his love for me! For us being there together felt like we came full circle.

Here we are at the original conference center...Bryce was starting not to feel good and started to throw a fit, which everyone heard!

We are so greatful to have found some sisters that were willing to give us a tour. I loved them and they were so great with Emma and teaching her things. Here they are showing Emma how the Pioniers cut the granit into blocks for the Temple. She is showing how smooth the side they did by hand vs. by machine.

When we were in Utah we stayed part of the time at The "Murdock's Bed and Breakfast"! It was amazing fun time....minus all the kids being sick. It was so nice to be with family and Emma was so excited to see her cousin Maryn they played all day and night!

Macy is so adorable...but wasn't feeling good that day! But isn't she so stylish...I love that sweater!

While in Utah we drove up to Park City to go tubing. There's a great place called Gorgoza Park right off the freeway.

Bryce started not feeling well and actually fell asleep while tubing!

Here is Mt. Emma where she blasted everyone with snowballs! Honestly that is all she cared about!! We started to leave and she didn't get to throw one at us yet and got upset.....so we let her throw some and left happily! We love the snow and can't wait to go back and play again.

Emma really wanted to be a ballerina so we decided to sign her up at the community center. She looked so cute in her ballet get up!

Oh Boy! The kids just love their daddy, all they want to do is hang on him, climb on him and tickle him. Emma and Bryce beg for his attention all the time so I decided to capture on camera some of Daddys creative kids entertainment....the picture above is Donnie doing the "monster dance" with Emma and Bryce on his feet. He will dance and jump up and down and attempt to walk with the two clinging on for dear life!

It's "Monkey swinging time"! We finally have a great broom to do this, just a side note...if you try it make sure you have a broom that the bottom actually screws onto the pole! Otherwise bye bye baby! hahaha. This is a HUGE hit in our house! The kids take turns swinging back and forth, Donnie sure does get a work out with them!

Beach time...4th of July....

We decided to enjoy our 4th of July by going to the Beach! Though it's not like California beaches but we still had a blast! Here is a picture of our "Sandman" Emma was so excited to make him, she kept going around to find the perfect eyes...but mommy had to have a say in it and insisted that the 2 eyes match in size and color! lol
Bryce Harley and Emma had fun attempting to make sand castles...it was so hot out that the sand was to dry to do anything. It took Donnie and Emma about 15 trips from the water to where we were dumping buckets of water in our little ditch.

It was late in the afternoon and we went to the Zoo while Donnie was at work. My favorite part was feeding the birds. They had seeds on a stick and then you hold out the stick and they fly down to you and land on your hand or stick and start eating. Emma was so excited but everytime a bird flew down and landed the the sticks she was holding she'd scream and drop the stick!

This was about 2 months ago. It was a rare semi sunny day and the kids really wanted to have a picnic but wanted to use all of Emma's tea party stuff. So we set up on our balcony a blanket and the tea set with water and a bunch of little snacks they could eat.

They had a blast and every so often they will go out and set up a picnic on the deck. This was really the first time they sat together and played well and shared! I love it!!!

So I am playing a little catch up here!! This was taken about 1 month before his 2nd birthday.

Bryce was really hungry and I guess Daddy and I were not moving fast enough for him! He opened up the pantry door and found the Mac and Cheese. Then opened up the dishwasher, got a bowl and opened the drawer and got a fork. He took it all to the table and attempted to make himself something to eat! It was sooooo cute we had to take a picture of him and his accomplishments. I knew we were teaching them self reliance!!! hahahaha

Yeah for me, I turned 23!!! hahaha well not really, it was more like 32 but it Rhymed! LOL. I was "kidnapped" by Linda and Jeni on Saturday to go to lunch for my bday. To my surprise we went to my favorite restaurant. Mongolian Grill\China House!!!
Jeni made this beautiful cake for me. She did AMAZING job and I love the colors!

Linda and Jeni had arranged some friends to come and celebrate with me. left to right Linda, Lisa, Ilene, me, Jeni, Liz, Cindy and Janet. There were actually 2 more, Nancy and Nicole, but they celebrated without me at Red Robins!! hahaha I have pictures and will post as soon as I figure out how to send them from my phone to my email! Maybe we'll celebrate next Sat. too so I can actually be there! lol Love you ALLLL and thank you for making my day extra special!!

On Sunday I was even more spoiled! Flowers, Fruit baskets, homemade cookies, and Island headband showed up! My step Dad came at 9 am to be the first to wish my happy birthday on my birthday. Thank you for my touch screen GPS navigation system Dad and Janice!! Now I can't get lost again!!! love you!

Donnie was so wonderful! Our kids are REALLY sick right now and he took care of them all day for me. He picked up the house and after lunch he brought out the presents! All I have to say is, he done did it right!! After the kids went to bed (at 7pm!!! the best bday present ever!!), Donnie had made me dinner, lit a fire, and put in a movie (The day the Earth stood still). Such a relaxing night with my hubby. I think the best part of the night was my bday dessert....SMORES!!! Oh ya!

I feel so blessed to have all of you guys in my life, friends and family. I love you all.

Shortly after dinner we did BUBBLES!!! We had a bubble machine and hooked it up for the kids. It was fun to watch them trying to pop them all!

Yuckie!! This was our project this week!! To make this ugly chair into...
This pretty and colorful chair! I was given this amazing table with 6 chairs from a previous resident and he had bought it from the Salvation Army. It was a really great table it just needed a little touch up. I had mentioned to one of my Residents\friends that I wanted to update the cushions but didn't know how nor did I have the patients to do them! LOL Well Myranda always wanted to try and I offered to be the guinea pig. I have to admit....they turned out AMAZING. It really brightens up our entire apartment.

Monsters vs. Aliens

The Monsters WON!! hahaha Emma and her friend Jasmine (from preschool) were able to hang out together for a fun friend day! They started out playing for almost 2 hours together at the Gym where Jasmine's mom works\workout at. I joined about 3 weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised to see Alisha in the Kids Zone working! Yeah! We all met up at the movie theater to see Monsters vs. Aliens in 3D. The girls were so excited to see a movie together that they talked about it for days...before and after! The girls had popcorn, drinks and candy and sat together throughout the whole movie. They both were extremely good and very still (which is surprising for Emma!). It was so adorable when they both would giggle at the same thing in the movie and look at each other and laugh harder. Emma is very thankful for her friends!

Donnie is now officially the Upsilon Pi Epsilon or (UPE for short) President! This is UW Tacoma chapter International Honor Society for Technology Professionals. He is really excited in getting this Honor. Some of his duties include picking new members to invite, officiating or cordinating the induction ceremony among many other duties.

Ok, So I have had several people want to hear the whole embarrassing story about how I messed up my hand! So here it is....red cheeks and all! LOL

Most of you know that I volunteer at Pierce County Juvenile Court and have for about 7 years (with a break in the middle for about a year). Well one of my cases was in Trial and had reconvened after the snow\Christmas break (pun not intended, but works!). We generally always meet at 9 am in the court room for this case had gone on for several days. I was just right on time and speed walked my way to the court room on the 2ND floor. When I had gotten there the door was locked with no one inside...then it hit me...I forgot that the Judge was switching Court rooms at the beginning of the year. So I speed walked to the other side of the court house and just as I pass the security check in point, my heal slipped from under me. I tried to prevent myself from falling by doing the several leaps forward. Unfortunately there was a sign in front of me, as well as 10 security officers, several cops and about 20 attorneys! So yes, I bit it really hard taking the sign down with me! I heard everybody stop...gasp and say "oh, my gosh that was such a bad fall!" Several people approached me asking if I was OK, or if I needed medical attention...honestly....I just wanted out of there!!! NOW!! I quickly said no, but I held up my left hand and winched in pain. I had landed on my hand and bent 3 of my fingers all the way back to where they touched my wrist. Wanting to cry so much but I felt like I had to put on a brave face as I scuffled to the elevator. Which of course was being held open by onlookers!! When I arrived to the court room (now 5 min late!) in extreme pain, I saw the girl that I am a CASA for outside the court room. I had asked her why she wasn't inside yet and she said she was waiting for her attorney, I was thinking awe man! But I think the real kicker was when I went inside to take my seat at the Prosecutors table and told them what had happened, they pretty much said, "Well court doesn't start until 930 today!" as they laughed! So I bit it for nothing, but at least I went in style! And yes...on camera!! LOL

The only sad part was that I sat all through Trial (until 330) then went home and had Donnie go to school until about 7pm. then I went to the hospital and waited in the lobby for about 7 more hours to be seen! So almost a whole day of pain. I messed it up pretty bad, tore some capillaries and possible some cartilage too!

Emma has been really into learning how her body works. She has a body book that gives detailed information on hearing, seeing, smelling, muscles and the skeleton, and--of course, the digestive tract. So, it shouldn't come as a surprise to us when one day it would all sink in or 'out' as I should say.
The other day, Emma had asked for a hot chocolate and Daddy made her one with some marshmallows to top it off. When she came up to me, she said, "Mmmmm, that hot chocolate was delicious... Hot chocolate comes out as pee pee and the marshmallows come out the butt as poo poo." Feeling proud of her new-found understanding, she preceded to tell me over and over again while I acknowledge her brilliance and cracked up laughing.

Meldrum Family Secret Recipe for 2008
Ingredients
2 Kids, one girl and one boy
2 Parents, one Mommy and one Daddy
1 Cat named Caesar
1 single van to get around in
3 Bedroom Apartment
½ as much time in a day as we'd like
A pinch of the unexpected
Heaping tablespoons of love and affection
Sprinkled with supportive family and friends
Directions
Take a new 3 bedroom apartment, preheat to 67° F (This may take some extra firewood this winter). Paint boy's room orange and decorate with “the Backyardigan's”. Give girl's room a flower theme. Move in boxes and furniture. Add parents then, while stirring, add kids (this will keep the mixture from setting). Add cat for garnish. Yields 1 happy home.
In the summer, take 1 airplane to Walt Disney World, roast kids and parents in the high 90's, making sure to baste them in occasional thunderstorms. (Don't worry they'll still have fun.) Dress little girl as Cinderella at the Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boutique. Stand in long lines to meet all their favorite Disney characters. Employ 1 babysitter to let parents go on some faster rides. Be sure to get lots of pictures and souvenirs.
In the fall, send girl to preschool four days a week. She will make friends, play games, and learn lots of new things (she'll tell you all about it when she gets off the bus). Her communication skills will improve. She will learn to use a computer and to read books with her Daddy each night before bed. The little boy will be learning to talk all this time, his favorite words being things like “Car!” and “Cookie!” and “Vroom, vroom!”. He will perfect his Cookie Monster impression, jamming pretend cookies into his mouth. With proper care, the kids will grow faster than you can buy larger size clothes.
With all the time spent on the kids, don't leave the Mommy and Daddy on the back burner. Mommy will support Daddy as he continues school, taking classes and teaching workshops. Daddy will also need to support Mommy with her Apartment Management job and her volunteering at Pierce County Juvenile Court. Both will need to work together in rearing the two kids into the wonderful adults they will become. For presentation, try to get the kids to brush their teeth, put on outfits that match, and hold still long enough to brush their hair. Bath time will be fun, but bedtime will be a challenge. The kids will use gratitude sparingly, but when they say “I love you!” on their own, your hearts will melt.
During the whole process, be sure to add heaping tablespoons of love and patience. Sprinkle in fun and games, using every opportunity that comes up to teach life lessons.
Warning! Making this recipe results in a messy kitchen (and messy living room and bedrooms, etc.) but when your done, everyone will tell you what a beautiful family you have!

It's SANTA!! Ho Ho Ho

Yup, we got a crier! You always see hilarious pictures of the kids who didn't want to sit on Santa's lap on TV or online. Well, we now have our very own!! We LOVE it! But I do have to admit that while we were up there trying to get a picture, I was saying a little prayer, "please, I don't want a crying picture!!" I think the gentleman behind us could sense this for he made a comment that they have one and it was their most memoriable picture taken with Santa. So I decided to go for it and then the special moment in time was captured...forever!

We are a little behind this year for Christmas for we have so much going on, but hopefully we will actually get Christmas cards out this year! LOL...please note our address change for those who want to send us one! wink wink ;) If you need it again let us know via email and we'll send it!

I was tagged by my sister in law to list 6 random facts about me. Hmmmm which ones should I choose!

Random Fact #1: I have 5 tattoos...a rose and a vine on my ankle (count as 2), a frog on my toe, a large tiger on my lower back and a butterfly on my left shoulder.

Random Fact #2: I HAD 10 piercings. 4 in my left ear, 3 in my right, 2 in my nose and 1 tongue.

Random Fact #3: I had gone to almost 30 different schools in my educational career. Thank you Mom and foster care!

Happy Birthday Donnie!! Our first day!

It was Donnie's 28th birthday the day we arrived! So we celebrated in Disney style by going to Chef Mickey's. Donnie was so happy to get his picture with Donald Duck on his Bday!

After breakfast was done, the staff and characters did a big announcement and then started singing a celebration song for his birthday. They brought over a cupcake with a candle in it! It was so cute. Pluto came over during the song and danced all around Donnie.

We went to Magic Kingdom after breakfast and their was a live show as soon as we got there, so perfect timing! It was cute and Emma really wanted to see it. Bryce was out in the stroller before we even arrived!

We enjoyed our first day but tried to cut it short for we all were soooooo tired from not sleeping on the plane. We went back and enjoyed dinner at the resort and slepted in the next morning!

So our flight wasn't to bad, we had just made the flight so no waiting at the airport for us! But when we flying over the east coast we saw some action of Hurricane Fay. The picture above is us flying over lightning! Makes a cool picture if you can catch it, but unnerving to fly over! lol

Donnie said this was his first long flight and as for Bryce, it's his first ever. He did GREAT!!! No crying because of ear pain on the way to Florida but a little on the way back.

Emma was soooooo excited to go on our trip. She kept telling our friend Travis about going (he was taking us to the airport...Thank you Travis and your family for everything!). We put on some princess pajamas for the late night flight. She stayed up till about 2 am then crashed just for us to wake her up 3 hours later to get off the plane!

The flight back was pretty good too, a little bumping. And I think the kid that threw up in front of Donnie during the landing would agree with my statements here! Poor kid! Thanks Jeni for the pick up! Traffic was so bad at the airport it took her almost an hour to lope around twice!

Princess Emma!!

Emma is princess for the day in Disney World! It was an amazing experience to share with her. Outside the Castle was the Fairy Godmother in a meet and greet setting, but they had cut off the line and told everyone to come back at 1:15. I was bummed because the Fairy Godmother is one of Emma's favorite parts of the movie. I had mentioned that we would not be able to come back then for we had an appointment at the Biddi Boddi Bo Botique, the Fairy Godmother then reached her arms out for Emma....took a picture and asked if she would like for her to walk her to the Castle where the Botique was! How exciting...Emma said yes and off they went. It amazing...it brought tears to my eyes...once they arrived to the Botique She very loudly announced that "Princess Emma has arrived" and then continued to talk with her, hug her and Emma danced for her!!

After she was all done in the botique we went on a quick ride, (its a Small World after all!)

4th of July!!

Ok, So I am a little late posting this blog. I think I may have to post a few different ones all at once for time is running by us so fast. We decided to have a family day 4th of July. So we didn't go anywhere or do anything until 7pm!! Yes in otherwords LAZY Day!! hahahaha

Emma and Bryce had fun digging in the hay stack for candy and little plastic toys. We had gone to Celebration park for the fireworks.

They were so adorable in their 4th of July outfits. Daddy had fun too helping them out with the "hunt"

Bryce and Emma were waiting ever so patiently for the fireworks. We were so amazed on how good they were on staying on our blanket and not running off. We played with bubbles and sang songs until it was almost time.

Bryce has grown up so fast I can't believe that he is now 1 year 3months old. He loves to run and scream with laughter. He can be naughty too though. He loves to get into the refridgerator and take stuff out and carry it into the living room. Emma sometimes will look at him and say "no Bryce" then pick up whatever he has taken out and put it on the counter unbeknownst to us! We will ask each other who put the sauces on the counter and come to find out it was Emma!! lol.

Thomas the Train is here!!

Yeah!! Thomas the Train came to visit us here in Washington state! Emma and Bryce love trains, though they didn't know Thomas too well until NOW! We drove up to Snoqualmie Falls to the train museum and entered Thomas' world. We had plenty of fun activities to do until our turn came to ride Thomas!
Here is a picture of us in front of Thomas. Unfortuantly I looked away, but it was a great picture of the kids so I don't mind making the sacrifice! lol!

Here we are again with the Conductor (I think!). Haha...Donnie just told me it is the Mayor! I don't think Bryce Harley smiled for any pictures; he missed his nap and was really tired. His favorite part was the pupet show. Both he and Emma laughed so hard.

Here comes Thomas! It was a wonderful welcome for him to come in as soon as we arrived.

Thomas took us on a 25 min train ride and right over the falls too! It was beautiful, the only sad part is we were in the very back and on the wrong side to see everything. But we now know for next time.

They had a little tattoo station and Bryce Harley and Emma both got their Thomas the train temporary tats!

The Beach Angel

Wow! Trying to come up with ideas for the kids to do so they don't get board out of their minds can be hard to do! Since we generally have to wait for Dad to come home to do our outings (we are a 1 car family) our options can be a little limited. So we decided to go to the Beach and enjoy the cool breeze and surprisingly warm water. We didn't put the kids in swimsuites because we thought the water would be cold. May be next time!

Donnie sure is a smarty pants! He was invited to join the Computer Science international honor society Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE). There was a introduction ceremony last week which we attended. It is nice to have something to say "hey good job!" He works really hard in trying to keep up his GPA and spend time with the family.

We are off of school for the summer and Donnie will be putting in some hours working for his parents. In addition to that he will be working on his web site. He wants to build one so he can get some experience as well as have something to show when he goes in for interviews.

Potty training time!!

Wow! It is that time! Time to tinkle in the potty. We were trying everything we could to get Emma potty trained. We tried stickers (no luck), we tried just going all day bare bummed (with no luck again but with lots of muck!) and we finally resorted to suckers. That was kindof working though I hated the thought of her getting a sucker first thing in the morning before breakfast. We had a friend suggest doing a prize box filled with goodies that Emma would love. So off to the dollar store we went and had a family fun filled day of potty prize pickings! LOL
Donnie was just as excited as Emma, He was the one that wrapped the box up and printed the little sign on the box! We spent about an hour unwrapping boxes and packages and put everything inside. There were a few things she absolutely wanted. She wanted the flute so bad and we kept telling her no, not until she went on the potty, boy did she cry. She kept running to the potty and sitting on it with no success, which upset her. But we stuck to the plan....no prizes unless you tinkle in the potty.

Then the next day....SUCCESS!!

Emma went on the potty! YEAH!! She was so excited and of course she picked her flute and a sucker! I didn't mind her getting both this time....LOL

So far she has earned 5 glitter bugs (bugs like dragon flies, flies, beetles, but with glitter on it!) 3 pinwheels, 2 flutes, barbie laptop, sillie puttie, shrek puzzle and a squishie ball. We try everyday and now she goes at least once a day but I know that we still have a long way to go but we are so proud of her!

Our Brief Summer

Springtime: Time to Spring!

As you can see it's picture day for the Meldrum kids! It takes a pretty fast exposure speed to make our kids look like anything other than a blur, especially now that Bryce is walking around, asserting his independence.

We have a lot of things to catch up on, from birthday parties to hospital visits to school and beyond...

Emma turned three-years-old and magically grew out of the "terrible twos" at the stroke of midnight. Actually, Emma has had a rough time since her last birthday. She had siezures one morning and had to be taken to the hospital. Concerned about her health, the pediatrician referred us to a neurologist for a series of tests over the next few weeks. We're happy to say that the professionals are no longer concerned that she has epillepsy, but we'll still be on the lookout for any symptoms in the future.

Bryce had a big birthday party at the Children's Museum at Seattle Center. We had a jungle theme, with a jungle cake and jungle animals, all in the jungle room. Many friends came to celebrate with us and Bryce got more than enough sugar for the day.

Donnie started his new quarter at school and is working evenings at the college, heading the workshop for Discrete Mathematics. The job came up out of the blue, but it will sure help us get through until summer vacation.

Christina has been practicing cake decorating and made several purse cakes for Relief Society. Plus she has new calling as the Relief Society Music Director, which gives her a chance to practice the music theory she learned taking harp lessons. The church website makes it a lot easier to practice the hymns before each Sunday.

Scenes from our very Merry Christmas

Thought you all would like a Christmas update from us! We had a wonderful holiday, beating all expectations. Emma was Little Miss Christmas this year, singing Jingle Bells and shouting "Merry Christmas!" to whoever we passed. She was very excited when we told her the Christmas is when we celebrate Jesus Christ's birthday. She would sing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus and tell him to blow out the candles!

The Meldrum kids were sent cards from thoughtful people across the country. We recieved season's greetings from people in Idaho, Utah, Michigan, Arizona, California, North Carolina and Maine. Emma loves her United States puzzle, so she got to actually hear from people living in some of those states.

Speaking of states, here's Bryce and his new jersey! He got to open his first Christmas presents and boy did he get excited.

Emma did enjoy ripping into the packages, but she even got excited for others' gifts. She would hand us a present and sing, "Present time, present time! Open a present and see what's inside!"

It was such a blessing for us to share Christmas together as a family. We taught the kids about baby Jesus and why this day is so important. We'll definitely remember this particular Christmas Day for a long time.

Trick-or-Treat!

If the day after Christmas is Boxing Day, maybe the day after Halloween should be called "Sugar Rush Hangover Day". Emma had a blast doing Trick-or-Treat. We went to several houses of our friends and neighbors and she would yell "Trick-or-Treat!" several times before the door even opened. She would always say "Thank you!" very loudly before turning around to trek to the next door for more candy. At one point she was practically dragging Mommy to hurry up to the next house. Her excitement grew more and more with each door, eventually culminating with an impromptu, energetic "I'm So Happy" dance at one elderly lady's door.

Our little witch only got scared a few times, once at a haunted house, another at a spooky graveyard with skeleton sentinel, and finally with another trick-or-treater dressed as a spooky old man. She didn't cry, she just froze and wouldn't budge.

The only one who wanted to prematurely end the night of candy was Bryce Harley. He wanted to go home, but Emma was saying "More trick-or-treat!" So Mommy took Emma around our complex while Daddy took Bryce home to fall asleep in his pumpkin outfit.

Even Caesar got into the spirit, even though a more appropriate costume for him would be a maniac, monster, jungle cat.

Happy Halloween! We've already gotten into the Halloween spirit. Christina has the whole apartment decorated with pumpkins and ghosts. Emma picked out her own costume this year: a witch ("Nya ha ha!"). Bryce has an adorable pumpkin outfit that will keep him toasty warm when we go out trick-or-treating. Emma is only just learning the joy of treats ("More candy!"), and is practicing saying trick-or-treat to everyone she sees.

The Incredible Growing Boy - Bryce is growing by leaps and bounds. He's already outgrowing his 12 month outfits though he is only six months old. He ways more than some two-year-olds at 23 pounds, and his pediatrician tells us how strong he is, sitting up by himself. He spends his day putting toys in his mouth, giving everyone raspberries and learning to roll over. He plays well with Emma, who's just starting to learn how fun a baby brother can be.

Super Emma! Emma seems to be on a superhero kick now. She always says "To the rescue!" when she wants to be a hero, or "Mwa ha ha!" when she wants to be a villain. We hope she'll settle on one or the other some day, preferrably hero. She impresses us to no end with her smarts. She loves reading her books and sounding out letters, almost as much as climbing and jumping off the furniture. The rainy weather gets hard for her since she can't go outside to play as much.

As to those taller than a yardstick... I'm attending school at University of Washington Tacoma, studying Computer Science. In fact, I have a mid-term today, so I'll need to start studying after this post. Christina has been great in giving me time to study and do homework for my challenging courses.

Christina has been very busy as well, taking care of the property and new move-ins. She and another resident threw a Halloween Haunted House for the kids in our complex, complete with peeled grape eyeballs and boiled cauliflower brains. She's been taking harp lessons recently and hopes to be able to play some Christmas songs soon. On Mondays, she volunteers at Pierce County Juvenile Court as a case aide/GAL. We miss our mommy when she's gone, even if it's only five hours a week!
